Recently comedians breaking into films have only featured in humorous movies. Lee Evans in 'Mousehunt' and 'There's Something About Mary' is one example. It is good to see Brian cast as a character who is the antithesis of himself. He is excellent as Bruno and at no time did I find myself thinking 'he can't play a gangster, he's a comedian'.
The film does have its light-hearted moments, which Brian obviously enjoys and excels at. And he is genuinely scary as the violent crime boss. Anyone who can bite off Christopher Biggins' ear and laugh has to be criminally insane. This film has taught me not to believe all the reviews I read. Brian is great in it and has created a very believable and fearful crime boss.
Go and see 'Circus' and you will have an enjoyable night out.
